Dark Angel's Jessica Alba shared one condition for reprising her role in a potential reboot, and it would make it a must-watch 22 years later. The sci-fi series, which was ahead of its time, is set in the year 2019 and follows a runaway supersoldier called Max Guevara. Dark Angel mostly garnered positive reviews from critics and audiences, with the pilot episode reaching 17.4 million views. Despite its brief run, it is often remembered as one of the best sci-fi TV shows of the 2000s.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Alba was asked if she would be open to reprising her role as Max in a Dark Angel reboot. Alba said she would be open to it with the condition that James Cameron would also be involved in the project. Alba and Cameron had worked together on the original show, and thus it makes sense that the actress would want to work with the director again in a potential reboot.

James Cameron Helming A Dark Angel Reboot Would Make It A Must-Watch
James Cameron Is The King Of Sci-Fi
James Cameron is one of the most influential filmmakers of our time. He has been at the helm of some of the most beloved and highest-grossing movies of all time, having broken countless box office records with Titanic and the Avatar movies alone. Cameron possesses a unique creative style when it comes to making sci-fi that would make a Dark Angel reboot a must-watch.
James Cameron is currently helming Avatar 3 and is expected to direct Avatar 4 and 5.
Seeing as Cameron was involved in the creation of the original Dark Angel, his knowledge of the characters and experience would take the reboot to new heights. Dark Angel season 2 ended on a cliffhanger, and it would be great to have Cameron helming a reboot that could tie the loose ends. His reputation alone would be enough to garner a large audience if a Dark Angel reboot were to happen.
James Cameron’s History With Dark Angel Explained
James Cameron Wrote And Produced Dark Angel
Fresh off his Titanic success, Cameron collaborated with Charles H. Eglee to create Dark Angel. The two had worked together on various projects before and ended up forming a production company called Cameron/Eglee Productions, which produced Dark Angel. At the time Dark Angel was being created, there were several strong female characters in TV and film, such as Buffy, Xena, Sarah Connor, and Ellen Ripley. These strong female heroes as well as the Battle Angel Alita manga influenced Cameron in his creation of Max.
Cameron served as a writer and executive producer in Dark Angel but only directed the season 2 finale with the hope that the show would return for season 3. Unfortunately, Fox canceled the show despite initially agreeing to renew it due to a drop in ratings and how expensive it was to make. Another reason Dark Angel was dropped was to make room for Firefly, another sci-fi show that ended up lasting for only one season. In the book Science Fiction Television Series: 1990-2004: Histories, Casts, And Credits For 58 Shows, Cameron expressed his disappointment at the cancelation of the show.
“We were supposed to be on a plane on Monday to go to the network upfront in New York on Tuesday. They called us that day and told us not to go! I was pissed!”
What A Dark Angel Reboot Would Look Like
A Dark Angel Reboot Is Not Officially In The Works
It seems unlikely James Cameron would be directly involved in a potential Dark Angel reboot considering he has been quite busy with the Avatar sequels. However, if a reboot were to happen, it could explore artificial intelligence and technological advancements, which would play into the dystopian theme the show employed. Alternatively, the Dark Angel reboot could revisit some of the ideas that Eglee and Cameron were working on before the show was canceled.
According to Eglee (via "Freak Nation" DVD commentary), Dark Angel season 3 was going to combine the stories of seasons 1 and 2 and reveal more about the mythology of the series. A Dark Angel reboot could use this idea and expand on it by revealing how Sandeman planned to spread Max's genetic immunity to the rest of humanity. Although the possibility of a Dark Angel reboot with Cameron at the helm is slim, the series was interesting enough during its original run and would welcome some sort of continuation.
